On 12 November 2024, Canadian Government, IRCC, published the following temporary public policy:

"A temporary public policy to facilitate open work permits for foreign nationals placed in an expression of interest pool or a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) has been put in place. This public policy allows foreign workers currently employed in a province or territory who have signed a letter of intent with IRCC and who have been issued a support letter by a participating province or territory to apply for an open work permit that may be issued for up to 2 years."

"The public policy requires that the province or territory sign a letter of intent with IRCC. This public policy expires on December 31, 2024."
